Drought Appeal
A state of emergency
Easing burdens and saving lives
Our mission, in times of hardship
A hundred years ago, barely 5% of the world suffered from chronic drought. Today, over 30% of the world is in drought. And that percentage is rising. Zambia is experiencing the worst drought to hit the country in at least two decades. Severe shortages of crops and water are rampant, and a state of national emergency has been declared.
Yet through all this, our mission continues. With the ongoing drought, and without food to sell, communities are not able to afford the contributions which we ask them to make towards freight costs.

We are determined not to let this limit the (literally) life-saving work we do - and so, in 2025, we will need to subsidise the cost of freight, to ensure that we can deliver our toolkits to those who need it most without lengthy delays.

To this end, we invite you to contribute to our drought relief fund of £50,000 - enough to sponsor the safe journey of our tools, one cubic meter at a time, whilst relieving the financial burden on our recipients.

Your support is crucial. Together, we can ensure that drought-stricken communities don’t face a year without hope. With your generosity, lives can literally be saved.

Meet Emmanuel
Emmanuel is a student at the Luapula Training Centre in Mansa, a large town in one of the poorest, driest regions of Zambia. Here, infrastructure is reeling in the wake of the 2024 drought, and youth unemployment in the area (already very high, given the lack of available education) is reaching record levels. He tells us:

“I saw an advertising poster as I passed by. I didn't know what to do, I had no job, I came after I completed secondary school but could find no work. There is no work here. People want older people and experience. I am 18, so what am I to do? Now I can get skills and experience. I like engineering. When I finish, my plans are to gain knowledge and get a job to help my friends.”
Working with engines as a mechanic is a dream come true for Emmanuel - and the impact on Mansa of this centre is extraordinary, with literally hundreds of lives transformed through the skills he has learnt through the use of TWAM tools. We call this the 'ripple effect', where one changed life can benefit another - and it really does work!
We must keep sending containers because of Emmanuel and the thousands like him, who are in desperate need of hope. With life as harsh as it has ever been, will you help us help them?
